This year’s Central Document No. 1 proposes to focus on increasing grain production on increasing yields over a large area. Autumn grain is the bulk of annual grain production. A bumper harvest of autumn grain can provide strong support for consolidating and strengthening the upward trend of the economy. At present, the main grain-producing areas are using new technologies and equipment to continuously consolidate the foundation for a bumper harvest and take the initiative in autumn grain production.
Since the beginning of autumn, autumn grain in Henan Province has entered a critical growth period. In Fuzhuang Village, Weixi Street, Jun County, Hebi City, Henan Province, villager Fu Taihua looked up at several drones shuttling over the corn fields with a look of joy.
“The corn field planted by Fu Taihua is one of the key areas for high yield in Jun County. The ‘one spray, multiple promotion’ operation carried out by drones can effectively promote crop growth and increase yield.” Dong Wenquan, member of the Party Leadership Group of Jun County Agriculture and Rural Affairs Bureau and agricultural expert, introduced that in order to promote the green, high-yield and high-efficiency yield of corn, by vigorously promoting the precise control technology of drip irrigation fertilizer and water for corn dense planting, selecting corn varieties suitable for dense planting, and adopting wide and narrow row combination planting, one acre of land can plant thousands of corn plants.
“At present, 289 new business entities and large grain growers in the county have laid drip irrigation belts covering an area of 62,000 acres. Through drip irrigation, the precise control of fertilizer and water, the effect of efficient water-saving irrigation is prominent, and the comprehensive benefits of agricultural production have been significantly improved.” Dong Wenquan said.
Focusing on improving grain production capacity and striding towards an agricultural power, agricultural machinery innovation is a key variable. With the accelerated integration of high-efficiency agricultural machinery into various fields of agricultural production, it brings major opportunities for my country’s agricultural modernization.
At present, autumn grain varieties in some areas have been harvested first, and more than 2 million acres of fresh corn in Heilongjiang Province have been harvested one after another. In the high-standard farmland of Qinggang County, Suihua City, Heilongjiang Province, three fresh corn stalk and ear harvesters are working at full capacity.

Xu Hongfu, deputy director of the Qinggang County Agriculture and Rural Bureau, said that in recent years, by continuously improving the quality of fresh corn and the added value of products, fresh corn has become the main industry for enriching people and increasing income. Data shows that as of now, the planting area of fresh corn in Qinggang County has reached 170,000 mu, and the annual output of fresh corn has reached more than 400 million ears.
Today, scientific and technological innovation is providing strong momentum for the modernization of agriculture. By the end of 2023, my country’s agricultural machinery ownership ranks among the top in the world, with a total power of more than 1.13 billion kilowatts. At present, the contribution rate of agricultural science and technology progress in my country has increased to 63.2%, and the comprehensive mechanization rate of crop cultivation and harvesting has reached 74%, providing strong support for accelerating the construction of an agricultural power.
