The volume of imports and exports of goods exceeded 21 trillion yuan in the first half of the year
According to customs statistics, in the first half of the year, the total value of China’s imports and exports of goods was 21.17 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.1% year-on-year. Among them, exports were 12.13 trillion yuan, an increase of 6.9%; imports were 9.04 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.2%.
In terms of trade scale, in the first half of the year, China’s imports and exports of goods exceeded 21 trillion yuan for the first time in history; the growth rate of imports and exports accelerated quarter by quarter, with an increase of 7.4%; % in the second quarter, which was 2.5 and 5.7 percentage points higher than the first quarter and fourth quarter of last year, respectively, the quality of imports and exports of goods continues to improve and the scale is rapidly expanding.
In terms of trade structure, in the first half of the year, the volume of imports and exports of China’s general trade amounted to 13.76 trillion yuan, an increase of 5.2%, accounting for 65% of the total value of China’s foreign trade. During the same period, imports and exports of processed products amounted to 3.66 trillion yuan, an increase of 2.1%, or 17.3%. In addition, China’s imports and exports through bonded logistics reached 2.96 trillion yuan, an increase of 16.6%.
ASEAN is China’s largest trading partner
In terms of trading partners, in the first half of the year, the total trade value between China and ASEAN, its largest trading partner, reached 3.36 trillion yuan, an increase of 10.5%, accounting for 15.9% of China’s total foreign trade value. During the same period, China’s total imports and exports to countries co-building the Belt and Road reached 10.03 trillion yuan, an increase of 7.2%.
From the perspective of enterprises, in the first half of the year, the import and export volume of private enterprises reached 11.64 trillion yuan, an increase of 11.2%, accounting for 55% of China’s total foreign trade value, an increase of 2.5 percentage points over the same period last year. During the same period, foreign-funded enterprises and state-owned enterprises saw growth in their imports and exports.
China’s summer grain harvest to be bumper in 2024
Data released by the National Bureau of Statistics on July 12 show that China will see a bumper summer grain harvest in 2024, laying a solid foundation for stabilizing grain output throughout the year.
In 2024, the country’s total summer grain output will reach 149.78 million tons, or 299.6 billion catties, an increase of 7.25 billion catties or 2.5% over 2023.
Summer grain area remains stable. In 2024, the summer grain sown area will reach 399.2 million acres, remaining stable. Among them, the wheat sown area was 346.361 million acres, an increase of 475,000 acres compared with 2023.
Summer grain yield per unit area increased. The national summer grain yield per unit area reached 375.2 kilograms per mu, an increase of 9 kilograms per mu over the previous year, an increase of 2.5%. Among them, wheat achieved a unit yield of 399.1 kilograms per mu, an increase of 2.6%. Looking at different regions, among the 25 summer grain producing areas, the output of 21 increased.
Civil aviation railways are running smoothly
In the first half of the year, China’s civil aviation economy has made steady progress and continued to improve. By the end of June, the industry had completed fixed asset investment of 61.52 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 33.2%; the total transportation revenue was 70.3 billion ton-kilometers, a year-on-year increase of 32.2%; The market size of domestic and international air transportation has exceeded the same period in 2019. In terms of passenger transportation, in the first half of the year, the industry carried a total of 350 million passengers, a year-on-year increase of 23.5%;

In terms of railways, data from China Railway Group shows that in the first half of the year, the country’s railways carried a total of 2.096 billion passengers, and the passenger traffic volume reached 777.952 billion passenger kilometers, up 18.4% and 14.1% respectively, both reaching a record high for the same period in history.
Railways across the country have increased their passenger transport capacity, with an average of 10,256 passenger trains running daily, a year-on-year increase of 9.4%. Strengthen the organization of cross-border passenger transport, operate high-speed trains from Beijing to Hong Kong between Beijing and Hong Kong, operate two international passenger trains from Xishuangbanna in China to Luang Prabang in Laos on the China-Laos railway line, and resume operations from Hohhot in China to Uzbekistan’s Lambato international passenger train in Mongolia. In the first half of the year, the Guangzhou-Shenzhen-Hong Kong high-speed railway carried a total of 7.587 million cross-border passengers, a year-on-year increase of 72.4%; 117,000 cross-border passengers. At present, China’s railway passenger volume, turnover volume and other indicators rank first in the world.
Financial support for the real economy remains stable
Data released by the People’s Bank of China on July 12 show that the stock of social financing as of the end of June was 395.11 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.1% year on year. Among them, the balance of RMB loans to the real economy was 247.93 trillion yuan, an increase of 8.3% year on year. Financial support for the real economy remains solid.
Daily business volume of postal express delivery exceeds 580 million items
On July 12, the State Post Bureau announced that in the first half of this year, China’s express delivery market maintained a rapid development trend, with the highest daily business volume exceeding 580 million items.
Data from the State Post Bureau show that from January to February this year, consumer demand for Chinese New Year products was strong during the Spring Festival holiday (February 10 to 17), the average daily volume of express delivery increased by 145.2% compared with the same period in 2023. Online retail sales of physical goods exceeded 1.8 trillion yuan, a cumulative increase of 14.4% year-on-year. From March to April, there was huge demand for the delivery of seasonal products such as spring tea, flowers and trees. Compared with the same period last year, the increase in express delivery business in a single month was more than 2.3 billion pieces. From May to June, under the influence of multiple factors such as mid-year promotions, the holiday economy, the fresh produce season and the graduation season, the average daily express delivery volume reached 480 million pieces. In June, China’s express delivery development index increased by 18.4% year-on-year.
