Jinan’s famous Taiyi Spring “sees the light of day again”

On August 17, during the construction of the urban renewal project in Jinan Ancient City (Mingfucheng District), Taiyi Spring, a famous spring in Jinan that was previously covered by buildings, was able to “see the light of day again”. Compared with the nearby Xiaowangfu Pond, Taiyi Spring has clearer water, with small bubbles rising continuously, and larger bubbles gushing out after a while.

According to records, Taiyi Spring is located at the southern end of Wangfuchizi Street and the east side of Xiaowangfuchizi. Hou Lin, a cultural scholar in Jinan, and scholars of literature and history pointed out that this spring is recorded in the “Records of the Local Survey of Licheng County” (1928 edition) and the “Chronicles of Jinan” (1997 edition). The records say that the spring pool is made of bricks into a circle, with a diameter of 0.8 meters and a depth of 1 meter. The water is abundant and was originally a source of drinking water for residents. In the 1980s, the spring pool was covered and houses were built on it.
