China’s “100 billion yuan districts” and “100 billion yuan counties” contribute nearly 30% of the country’s GDP
A research report released on the 20th showed that by the end of 2023, China will have 58 “100 billion counties” and 143 “100 billion districts”, which together contribute more than 28% of the country’s GDP and more than 31% of specialized and innovative “little giant” enterprises.
This “2024 Industrial District and Industrial County High-quality Development Evaluation Research” was jointly released by the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology of China’s News and Publicity Center Gongxin Think Tank and the Learning Power Country Platform, and the “Top 100” list of the 2024 Industrial District and Industrial County Evaluation Research was also officially released.
The study said that industrial districts and industrial counties with GDP greater than 100 billion yuan (RMB, the same below) are the key support for the high-quality development of regional economies.
Data shows that by the end of 2023, China’s 58 “100 billion counties” with 1.17% of the country’s total land area contributed 7.39% of the country’s GDP, more than 10% of the output value of industrial enterprises above designated size, and more than 7% of specialized and new “little giant” enterprises. Among them, the Yangtze River Delta region alone accounts for 33, accounting for 56.89% of all “100 billion counties”.
China’s 143 “100 billion yuan zones” account for 0.96% of the country’s total land area, contribute 20.79% of the country’s GDP, and have more than 24% of specialized and new “little giant” enterprises. The eastern region has exceeded 90 seats for the first time. Among them, the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area occupies 25 seats, with 0.41% of the country’s land area, contributing more than 6% of the country’s GDP, and an economic density of 576 million yuan/square kilometer.
Based on the actual survey, this study follows the laws of urban and industrial development and proposes six major trends for urban areas and counties to achieve high-quality development: the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries will continue to consolidate the development foundation of industrial cities, accurately grasping the “trend” of industries will determine the future competitiveness of industrial cities, creating industrial IP will become an important starting point for shaping the influence of industrial cities, business service branding will become a common measure to enhance the attractiveness of industry attraction, industrial collaboration based on comparative advantages in factor endowments will become the main paradigm of regional coordinated development, and industrial technological innovation will evolve in a more pragmatic and efficient direction.
